Which visa should I apply for?
Generally, a Student visa (Subclass 500) is needed to study in Australia. If the student holds this student visa and is under 18 years of age, their family member or guardian can come to Australia alongside with the Subclass 590 visa.
What does the student visa allow?
The subclass 500 Student visa allows students to study in an eligible course of choice for up to 5 years depending on their enrollment, apply for courses in or outside of Australia, bring family members along to Australia, and work for unlimited hours while studying in the country*.

Which institutions exist in Australia?
There are three types of tertiary institutions in Australia: Universities, Technical and Further Education (TAFE) institutes, and private providers. The type of institution you or your student chooses will depend largely on whether they want to study a higher education course or a Vocational Education and Training (VET) course.
